Ahisma... awkward, shouldn’t it be Ahimsa?

So many people have asked about the origin of my business name. As I launch my studio in Edinburgh this month I thought it a good time to share the thought process behind it.

I have always known from a young age that I didn’t want children and I have never pretended that it would be any different. As most of my friends get married and move on with the next stages in their lives, mainly having younglings, I too have progressed and built something that is ‘my baby’ that I’ve dreamt about for a very, very long time.

In Hindi, Ahisma is a name for a baby girl meaning kindness to self or non violence. My business is as important to me as a first born baby would be and resonates with me as one very valuable lesson, that you have to be kind to yourself first before you can spread loving kindness out into this world.

There are so many people out there that practice physical asana and then look in the mirror and judge themselves or sit on the bus and judge someone else... what’s the point in that? It only breeds hatred, anger, worthlessness and self pity. None of which are useful or positive.

Be kind to yourself, spread that kindness to others and let your light shine.

I do hope you can can make it along to my new studio @ 191 Causewayside, Edinburgh to practice with me soon. It would be a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to spread a little love, peace and light into your life.

Namaste 🧘🏼‍♀️🙏🏻
